Grice’s (1975) cooperative principle assumes that people cooperate in the process of communication in order to reduce misunderstandings. In order to comply with this principle, speakers need to follow a number of sub-principles or maxims.

[a] Define each of these maxims.

Grice's helpful standard is an arrangement of standards that are normal in discussions. It comprises four proverbs, we need to follow with the end goal to be helpful and comprehended:

Maxim of quality : As a speaker we need to come clean or something that is provable by sufficient proof.

Example:
A : Why are you late to class today?
B : My car broke down.

Maxim of quantity : We must be as instructive as required, we ought not to say pretty much.

Example:
A : What time is your calss tomorrow?
B: Tomorrow i have class at 8am.

Maxim of relation : Our reaction must be significant to the theme of talk.

Example:
A : How is the weather today?
B : It is raining heavily outside.

Maxim of manner : We need to evade vagueness or lack of clarity; we ought to be immediate and direct

Example:
A : Where was your mom after came back from the supermarket?
B : She left the supermarket and went back home.

[b] Explain the differences between ‘quietly violating’ a maxim and ‘openly flouting’ a maxim?

There are a ton of ways somebody could violate a standard: accidentally, or coincidentally, or as a reaction of some other expected activity, or instrumentally, which means to accomplish a particular outcome.

Flouting intends to disregard the standard with the end goal to be seen abusing the standard - "Take a gander at me, here I am damaging this standard!" They are attempting to make a point, if just "I'll be the one to choose whether I do this".

For instance, somebody may cross the road stripped. Who knows why? Perhaps they got bolted out of their home. Or then again they may cross the road in front of the police headquarters or courthouse.

IDEOLOGY OR PROPAGANDA Question : Based on the poster, what is the ideology/propaganda message? Answer : The figure above shows the poster of a quote by Malcolm X, based on that poster what I can clarify is he trying to tell people how big is the impact of mass media in our society. This is an ideology to tell people that whatever news that spread by mass media is not all of them are valid. For me, as a reader, we need to always analyze every news that we read so that we can know if it's true or not. Today, social medias like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter make it easy for ordinary individuals to create or disseminate propaganda. It may use partially true or incomplete information that comes from a source that looks authentic, but is controlled by sources that are disguised as a diversion to the truth, can be beneficial or harmful. It may use truth, half-truths or lies, do not believe everything that you read or hear on the news.
